Rx For Brown Skin’s Dr. Susan Taylor & Her Tips To Erase Dark Spots
Beauty Digest, Skincare, rx for brown skin No Comments »
As a practicing dermatologist and creator of Rx For Brown Skin, Dr. Susan Taylor knows what the biggest issue facing brown skin is. She sees it everyday: Dark marks, or hyper-pigmentation.“Hyper-pigmentation comes from damaged skin, like acne, a rash, or a sunburn. And dark marks on brown skin don’t last for a few weeks—they last for a few months.”
Brown skin also tends to be sensitive and easily irritated, which means many products designed to help hyper-pigmentation actually cause further irritation.
Finding there were simply no good products on the market she could recommend to her skin of color patients, Dr. Taylor invented her own.
First, she got rid of all irritants, fragrance, dyes, lanolin and other additives. Then she got to work on a Bright Skin Complex that would brighten and hydrate. The magic ingredient in her formula? It’s actually three: hyaluronic acid, soy, and pomegranate, which work together to repair existing damage, moisturize skin, and restore a gorgeous brown skin glow.
Learn more about Dr. Taylor’s Bright Skin Complex.
“These ingredients are good for any skin color, or anyone with sensitive skin, but I’ve found these to be particularly important for brown skin,” says Dr. Taylor.
Just don’t go undoing all your hard work by leaving home without your sunblock.

For The Good, The Bad, And The Girls With Great Blowouts: Here’s Your Hair Dryer

"Well, are you gonna pull them pistols or whistle Dixie?"From Fashion Indie via LikeCool comes the best hair dryer I've ever seen, and I'm not even sure it works. Apparently the hammer adjusts temperature, the trigger fires off a round of heat? Dunno.
I'd fry my hair silly using something like this. Does putting it back in the bathroom cabinet make it a concealed weapon? Do I need to register my hair as a lethal weapon?
If you're looking for tickets to this gun show, there's no word on availability. But if I find out, I'll post that info faster than a you- know- where- I'm- going- with-this.
My Mueller cousin, Cousin Dave, works in sports marketing in North Carolina. He believes in positive thinking, and sends out-of-the-blue text messages like "just wanna say I love u cuz!," or simply, "BOOM!!". He's famous for his present giving: a homemade hemp necklace, personalized mix tapes ("Cousin's Compilation"), a framed picture of a random Austrian hillside.
Of late, Cousin Dave is a great lover of cologne—which troubles me, because I am not. Most men's fragrances creep me out—too sharp, or too "aquatic" (whatever that means), or too something.
If you have a cousin like Dave—and I hope you do—this is absolutely what you should get him the next time his birthday comes up: Fresh Cannabis Santal. It is warm and complex and a tiny bit spicy, and is universally beloved by men, women, and Sephora executives (it won the "Best of Sephora" award last year). Even me. And of course, Cousin Dave.

Wondering how to keep your brown skin glowing? That’s easy when you’ve got tips from a pro like Dr. Susan Taylor, creator of Rx For Brown Skin and a practicing dermatologist.First, she’s out to bust the biggest myth about brown skin—that it doesn’t require sunblock. “Just not true!” says Dr. Taylor. “Studies show that African Americans and Hispanics are least likely to wear sunscreens, and that’s a major no-no.”
In fact, Dr. Taylor can give you 4 good reasons why you need an SPF:
1. Brown skin can and does burn
2. Brown skin can and does get cancer
3. Sun damage leads to uneven skin tone--even on darker skin
4. Damaged skin leads to dark marks, or hyper-pigmentation, which is one of the biggest issues for brown skin
If you’re all too familiar with hyper-pigmentation, know that going out in the sun is actively making this problem worse. Not only do you not see discoloration until well after you’ve already damaged your skin, but Dr. Taylor points out, “Dark marks on brown skin don’t last for a few weeks—they last for a few months.”
Reason enough to lather on some sunscreen?
Drop by tomorrow: Dr. Taylor dishes out complexion-perfection tips, including how to undo hyper-pigmentation.
